Hello, this manual was lovingly created for those of you who want to visit Ilha Grande. Especially for those who have never been, and of course, have many questions, it will certainly be very useful. After all, this is an island, and it has its peculiarities. Count on us to give you tips and make your trip even better!

Here we go, just like any trip, to come to Ilha Grande, you need to organize yourself around 4 basic pillars. We will organize our manual based on these. This way you can find answers to your questions according to your needs.

HOW TO GET TO ILHA GRANDE?

Ilha Grande is located 150km from the city of Rio de Janeiro and 400km from São Paulo. Access, exclusively by sea, has three main routes:

1. Angra dos Reis 2. Conceição de Jacareí 3. Mangaratiba

The best option is the one that suits you. Each location has its peculiarities. It's up to you to decide which would be ideal, or count on us to help you with that decision. :) 

- Angra dos Reis

The main and most traditional crossing point, Angra is the simplest and most organized option to get to the Island.
The city offers extensive infrastructure for tourists, and several crossing options to the Island, as well as simple ways to get to Angra.

How to get to Angra dos Reis?

To get to Angra, you can go by car or bus.
If you're coming by car, you'll need to book parking, as we don't recommend leaving it on the street or in public parking lots. The city offers several parking options. We have selected partners for you to leave your car with peace of mind, security, and right in front of Angra's main pier! The cost starts from R$ 25 per day, and the price may increase on holidays and during high season.
If you're coming by bus, don't worry, this option is very comfortable. You won't spend on parking, and Angra's bus station is close to the city center and the boarding pier for Ilha Grande. The taxi cost from the bus station to Cais Santa Luzia is around R$ 15.

Upon arriving in the center of Angra, your options for Ilha Grande are:
Flex Boat Crossing (35min) which costs R$60 one-way and R$ 100 round-trip. There are several times available, but be aware that the last time is 6:30 PM. We offer this service to you, book with us and make your arrival easier. Just book and board directly at the main pier: Estação Santa Luzia.

CCR Barcas: This is the most traditional option, taking 1:30h, but costing R$17 per person per crossing. There is only one regular schedule:
3:30 PM Angra x Ilha
10:00 AM Ilha x Angra
Sundays and holidays have different schedules, we recommend checking directly on the CCR Barcas website.
This option does not require prior booking, just go to the ferry pier and purchase your ticket 30 minutes before departure.

- Conceição de Jacareí

Today it is the main way to get to Ilha Grande, as it is the fastest option for those coming from Rio de Janeiro.

The crossing time from Conceição to Ilha Grande is 20 minutes, there are many speedboat schedules, and the last time is also 6:30 PM.

Conceição is advantageous because it is 30/40 minutes closer to Rio than Angra, and also closer to the Island, reducing the crossing time. The Flex Boat cost is usually lower than Angra throughout the year, but on holidays and high season, it ends up being the same price.

Conceição also offers several parking lots, most of them illegal. We strongly recommend leaving your car with our partner: Estacionamento Vista Mar . It has a location in front of the pier, and many years of experience to ensure proper security for your car. The daily rate varies between R$ 20 and R$ 40 throughout the year. Ilha Tour clients receive a discount.

The crossing from Conceição has a variable cost from R$35 to R$55 throughout the year, with a discount when purchasing a round trip. But be careful when booking your ticket in Conceição, as you are often limited to a few times. By booking with us, you can come and go at any time offered on the route. Departures start at 08:00 AM and end at 6:30 PM.

The big problem with Conceição is that the tourist operation there is very disorganized; many agencies overwhelm you until you reach the pier, and often illegal street vendors put you in inconvenient situations. That's why we recommend, if you go through Conceição, to have everything organized with us in advance.

 Mangaratiba

Mangaratiba only has the ferry option for regular travel, which takes almost 2 hours and has a regular schedule of 8:00 AM every day. With some variations on Sundays, Fridays, and holidays. Check the CCR Barcas website for details.

The cost of this crossing is R$17, and you can purchase your ticket directly at the pier 30 minutes before departure.

Ilha x Mangaratiba the time is 5:30 PM

 

WHERE TO STAY IN ILHA GRANDE?

Ilha Grande has several places and types of accommodation for you to choose from. We always recommend staying in Vila do Abraão and booking with accommodations close to the center. Be careful with prices. Most of the time, they are cheap due to the location. They may even be good, but sometimes you have to go uphill or they are located in not-so-attractive places.

PRICES vary greatly depending on the time of year, number of people, and length of stay. But we always recommend SUITES, as they offer great quality and an accessible price. Often, inns abuse their rates by only offering breakfast as a differential.

There are several options of things to do, from tours, walks, trails, diving, activities... There's no shortage of options. Always look for serious agencies with a good track record. Keep in mind that anyone can claim to be an agency. Avoid street vendors and the famous taxi boat.
